Everyone needs a strong cup of coffee on a Monday morning but did you know coffee has other benefits than just waking us up? Take a look at how coffee can be incorporated into your skincare and what benefits it has.
Body scrub ♨️
Coffee grounds make a great exfoliant as they don’t dissolve in water, which makes them perfect for scrubbing away dead skin cells. The substances in coffee also help to promote healthy skin. Caffeic acid is an antioxidant that may help to boost collagen levels and also reduce the premature aging of skin cells.
To make a simple coffee exfoliating scrub, combine the following:
- 1/4 cup fresh coffee grounds
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- squeeze of lemon juice
Take the mixture and scrub into the skin every few days and let the scrub sit on the skin for a few minutes before rinsing off fully.
Cellulite reduction 🍑
Coffee can help to reduce the appearance on cellulite on the skin by dilating the blood vessels beneath the skin and improving blood flow. This in turn may help to decrease the visible appearance of cellulite. Just like with body scrubs, the physical exfoliation will also smooth the skin, stimulate blood flow and provide a more even texture.
Acne treatment 💥
The regular use of coffee in skincare can help combat problems caused from harmful bacteria. The CGAs in coffee have both anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. Combine these with the natural exfoliation of the grounds, all these benefits can collectively fight acne. As acne occurs when sebum and dead skin cells clog pores and attract bacteria, a physical exfoliant can help to clear away the dead skin cells and unclog the pores.
Dark circles 👀
Coffee may benefit people with puffy, inflamed and dark circles under the eyes. The high caffeine content stimulates blood flow is thought to help dilate blood vessels that contribute to dark circles. The increased blood flow can also help to naturally tighten the skin. This can result in a reduction of the fluid under the eyes.
To use coffee for dark undereye circles:
- Combine ½ tsp of coffee grounds and olive oil. Add in some water to make a paste in your hand.
- Gently pat underneath your eyes.
- Leave the mixture on for five to ten minutes.
- Rinse off with water or gently wipe the mask with a soft cloth. Repeat as often as needed.
